The SCMS Honor Band is one of two middle school bands to be selected to perform at the Southeastern United States Middle School Honor Clinic at Troy University. The cost is $100 per student and the money is due on September 26th.
Congratulations to the SCMS Honor band for making the Georgia Music News Journal. Check out the article at the link below:

Congratulations! I am so excited to share this wonderful news. Two years ago, the SCMS Honor Band won the MS concert band division in Disney World. A recording of that performance was submitted to a committee in Honolulu, Hawaii. No school name, director name, no grade level, etc. was indicated on the recording. We were selected and invited to compete in Honolulu, Hawaii and to also perform at the 76th anniversary for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The trip is handled through Worldstrides Performance Company.
The dates of the trip are April 5-9, 2017 ( spring break). Students will also be excused from school on Monday, April 10 to recover from jet lag.
Before you panic about the price, please know that the strong booster organization of our band is going to give each and every child a chance to raise every dollar before each of the six payment plans that are in place. Any child who is willing to work for their trip will be able to experience this once in a lifetime, history making event.
The total cost of the trip is approximately $1780 per student based on quad occupancy. This is an estimate based on the cost of the trip for this year. The flight department cannot lock us in on a flight rate until 11 months before the trip and is contingent on gas prices at the time of booking. We should know this by May. The price is the same for adults based on quad occupancy. The price goes up considerably for a double room. Here is what is included in the cost of the trip: Flight, hotel one street across from Waikiki Beach, snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, national competition with nationally acclaimed adjudicators, performance at Pearl Harbor, a DVD of pictures from the trip, lei greeting at airport, transportation to and around the island, admission to the Polynesian Cultural Center, awards ceremony, buffet dinner and show at the Polynesian Cultural Center, airport transfers, medical, accident, and liability insurance coverage, tour of Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. The proposed payment plan is as follows:
The band booster organization is working diligently to help each student raise their trip cost through various fundraising activities. Many of those will be discussed at our monthly band booster meetings in the band room. As a matter of fact, several students already have their first payment made through a fundraiser that has been taking place at Belk. We truly want to make this “once in a lifetime” memory available to the wonderful students and parents of South Central MS.
Thank you for all you do and please do not hesitate to ask questions of me. Sheila.email@example.com

Two years ago, the South Central Middle School (SCMS) Honor Band won the middle school concert band division in Disney World. A recording of that performance was submitted to a committee in Honolulu, Hawaii. No school name, director name, no grade level, etc. was indicated on the recording. We were selected and invited to compete in Honolulu, Hawaii and to perform at the 76th anniversary for the bombing of Pearl Harbor in April 2017.
This is an honor for our talented students and their dedicated teacher Ms. Smith. However funding this trip will be a challenge. The kids are working hard to raise funds via bake sales, yard sales, car washes, spaghetti dinners, etc to keep the cost down for thier parents.
The money you donate will be split between all of the middle schoolers attending the Hawaii trip. We appreciate your help in any amount! The trip must be paid in full by January 16th, 2017.
Congratulations to the SCMS Honor Band for winning Grand Championship at the Southern Star Music Festival in Atlanta, GA. Many groups attended from 6 states. Gold award in Middle School Division, Sweepstakes Highest Score in Middle School Division and Grand Championship Award for having the highest score among all high school and middle school choral groups, orchestras, jazz bands, and concert bands regardless of age. Way to go!

We have an exciting opportunity for your student that will not only help him or her substantially imrove their ability, but will also actually make practicing a lot more fun! It's called SMARTMUSIC and it's a practice and assessment software program that's currently being used in thousands of school districts across the country. We have our own subscription here at school and plan to use it extensively throughout the school year.
We recommend that you seriously consider SMARTMUSIC for home use. The cost is $40 for a one-year subscription, plus a one-time cost for the microphone ($19.95 for Windows, $29.95 for MAC). That ivestment will make a huge difference in your student's ability to meet our class goals--and it will make practicing more engaging and productive. If you have a microphone it is not necessary to order a new one.
SMARTMUSIC provides your student access to thousands of music titles, all with professional accompaniment that sounds great and helps encourage practice. The software provides immediate feedback that shows your student what they played correctly and where they need to improve. The assessment scores encourage continued practice, similar to scores in a video game. To learn more, view a short video at www.smartmusic.com
We sincerely hope you choose to order a SMARTMUSIC subscription for this year. You can place your order at www.smartmusic.com. We've seen how well it works and how well students respond. We know it can make a huge difference in your student's ability and increase their love for making music.
